Today, Ohio progressive organizations announced details of the largest midterm election coalition ‘Get Out the Vote’ (GOTV) effort in Ohio’s history. Leaders from the coalition of independent expenditure (IE) groups — America Votes, For Our Future Ohio, Conservation Ohio, and Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio — detailed their large-scale voter turnout canvass operation, as well as other voter turnout tactics, including digital advertising.
“This year’s ground game and GOTV program is the largest and most well-organized midterm IE operation in Ohio history,” said Lindsey Stewart, Deputy State Director of America Votes Ohio. “By combining forces for GOTV, our coalition is poised to help elect Richard Cordray as governor, re-elect Senator Sherrod Brown, and elect progressives up-and-down the ballot.”
The coalition announced that they will collectively knock more than 1,000,000 doors of Democratic turnout targets to push those voters to vote early or on Election Day. Canvassers will knock on doors in ten key counties, including 500,000 doors in Cuyahoga County; 200,000 doors in Franklin County; 150,000 doors in Hamilton County; 60,000 doors in Lucas County; 40,000 doors in Montgomery County; 40,000 doors in Summit County; 25,000 doors in Lorain County; as well as smaller programs in Mahoning, Stark, and Trumbull Counties.
“We at For Our Future Ohio — along with our coalition partners — are leaving no stone unturned,” said Antonia Webb, For Our Future Ohio State Director. “We are geared up and prepared to channel the tremendous progressive energy we are seeing on the ground behind the Democratic ticket.”
In addition to the coalition’s ground game, For Our Future Ohio, Conservation Ohio, and Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio announced that they would each be spending six figures on digital advertising during Early Vote and through Election Day to reach those same voters at their “digital doorsteps.”
“To us and the voters we’re talking to, this governor’s race is a clear choice,” said Aryeh Alex, Conservation Ohio State Director. “Environmental champion Rich Cordray will protect our air and water, and will lead on ensuring Ohio is embracing the clean energy future by providing good paying, clean energy jobs for Ohioans.”
“This November will determine the future of women’s rights in our state and their freedom to control their own body, life, and future,” said Sarah Inskeep of Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio. “That’s why we have invested in our most aggressive voter contact program ever.”
