For Our Future Ohio Knocks 300,000th Door Months Before November Election

Aug 22, 2018

Major Statewide Door-To-Door Voter Contact Program Will Continue to Ramp Up and Run Through Election Day in Support of Rich Cordray and Sherrod Brown

Today, For Our Future Ohio reached a major milestone in the organization’s door-to-door voter contact program: 300,000 doors knocked across Ohio. The door-to-door voter contact program, which covers every region of the state, demonstrates a show of progressive strength and large-scale voter engagement heading into the 2018 election.

For Our Future Ohio launched its statewide canvass program in March, beginning its voter contact program in its 8 regions, which are centered in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, the Mahoning Valley, Toledo, and southeast Ohio. The statewide canvasses are now focused on the gubernatorial race and the U.S. Senate race, and are informed by the initial focus of hearing from voters about issues affecting their families and communities.

“We’re leaving no stone unturned, talking with voters in every corner of the state — and as our voter contact program ramps up through Election Day, hundreds of canvassers will be channelling the tremendous progressive energy behind the Democratic ticket,” said For Our Future Ohio’s State Director Antonia Webb. “As we work to elect Rich Cordray and Sherrod Brown, For Our Future Ohio is building a permanent, community-based progressive infrastructure across all of Ohio.”

In a testament to For Our Future Ohio’s commitment to and the importance of this midterm election, For Our Future Ohio and its partners already have 113 canvassers on the ground across Ohio talking to voters every day about the the high stakes of this election and the importance of voting. Currently, there are 8 canvassers in the Akron region, 7 in the southeast Ohio region, 8 in the Cincinnati region, 19 in the Cleveland region, 35 in the Columbus region, 8 in the Dayton region, 20 in the Toledo region, and 8 in the Mahoning Valley region. The number of canvassers on the ground will continue to grow before Labor Day — the traditional start of the campaign season — and as Election Day nears.

For Our Future Ohio is a grassroots non-profit organization that advocates for policies that benefit families and communities in Ohio, including creating shared economic prosperity, strengthening public education, advancing social and racial justice, and protecting the environment.

  • The Columbus Dispatch, 2/1/18: “Ohio is one of seven battleground states being targeted by For Our Future — a $70 million, Democratic-aligned effort to contact voters and identify issues in their communities. Part of the mission is to recruit members of local communities to become organizers instead of having outsiders parachute in.”

  • Politico, 1/19/2018: “For Our Future is aiming to raise at least $70 million to support organizing efforts in at least six battleground states.”

  • Capitol Letter, 8/16/18: “For the first time, several independent liberal groups are coordinating their field and digital advertising programs for the 2018 midterms. For Our Future Ohio, Conservation Ohio, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio, and the America Votes Coalition are coordinating their field and advertising programs for the 2018 midterms to make sure they don’t overlap efforts to help Democrats Richard Cordray for governor and Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate, according to Daniel van Hoogstraten of For Our Future Ohio.”
