For Our Future Ohio Calls on Sen. Portman to Reject Trump Fed Candidate

Apr 24, 2019

Stephen Moore, Who Called Cincinnati and Cleveland “Armpits of America” and Closure of Plants Like GM Lordstown “Creative Destruction,” Unfit to Serve

Today, For Our Future Ohio called on Sen. Rob Portman to join Sen. Sherrod Brown in rejecting and condemning Stephen Moore, whom President Donald Trump is considering nominating to serve on the Federal Reserve Board. Recent reports reveal Moore insulted Ohioans by calling Cincinnati and Cleveland “armpits of America.”

For Our Future Ohio spokesperson Daniel van Hoogstraten issued the following statement:

Senator Portman’s spineless nonresponse to Stephen Moore’s disgraceful comments is an insult and falls far short of what we should expect from our elected officials. Moore is wholly unfit to serve on the Federal Reserve, and Portman must join Senator Brown in defending the hardworking people of Ohio by condemning Moore and rejecting his candidacy if nominated.”

This isn’t the first time Moore has insulted Ohioans. Moore has previously called the closure of plants like General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio “creative destruction,” ignoring the very real pain Ohio workers and families are experiencing as a result of the plant’s closure. Moore also has a long history of making sexist statements.

Notably, Moore currently owes more than $75,0000 to the IRS.
