New Video Highlights the Need for Congress to Pass a Clean Dream Act
As Republicans in Congress continue to thwart common sense efforts to protect Dreamers, a new video underscores the urgency for Congress to act on DACA. The video features the story of Sara, one of thousands of DACA recipients living in Ohio who now faces an uncertain future as a result of the Trump administration’s decision to rescind the DACA program.
Sara moved to the United States with her family when she was 5 years old. Since becoming a DACA recipient at 22, Sara has been able to contribute more fully to her community and family. Sara says that she would someday like to open a restaurant and start an organization to help Dreamers like her.
Now, Sara fears what will happen if Congress fails to protect Dreamers. “I’m afraid that I’m going to have to go be an alien in a country that I don’t know,” Sara said. “How would you feel if you were in this position where you had to fear that you’re going to leave the only place you’ve known as home?”
Each day that Congress fails to act on DACA, 122 Dreamers lose their DACA protections. To date, more than 17,000 Dreamers have lost their DACA protections. Without these protections, young Dreamers could be forced out of their jobs, out of their education, and out of the only country they’ve called home.
