Every Ohio Republican In Congress Voted for Tax Bill That Threatens Ohioans Health Coverage, Explodes Federal Deficit
This week, Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate passed a tax reform bill that delivers huge tax handouts to millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations, which will be paid for by slashing funding for Medicare, Medicaid, education, and more. While Republicans claim that the tax cuts will benefit middle-class families, millions of working- and middle-class Americans will see their taxes increase under the Republican tax plan.
For Ohio’s Future spokesperson Daniel van Hoogstraten issued the following statement in response to passage of the bill:
“The Republican tax plan is as morally reprehensible as it is fiscally irresponsible. In doling out huge tax breaks to the wealthy and massive corporations, congressional Republicans have made clear that they are willing to trade in Americans’ health care, education, and economic future to appease their donors and corporate insiders. Despite Ohioans’ clear objections to this bill, all of Ohio’s Republican representatives in Washington chose to side with the wealthiest 1% over their own constituents.”
Adding insult to injury, Republicans used their tax plan to attack the Affordable Care Act — risking millions of Americans’ access to health coverage and affordable health care. Yet Congress still has not found the time to reauthorize federal funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), create a jobs plan or infrastructure bill, or pass a clean Dream Act to protect young immigrants.
