Tonight, Ohio gubernatorial candidates Rich Cordray and Mike DeWine faced off in their third and final debate before the upcoming midterm elections. With Ohio early voting beginning this week — Wednesday, October 10 — the choice for Ohio’s next governor couldn’t be any clearer: Rich Cordray is the best candidate to lead Ohio.
“On the debate stage and the campaign trail, Rich Cordray has proven that he will fight to protect health care, stand up for working families, and build a better future for all Ohioans,” said For Our Future Ohio spokesperson Daniel van Hoogstraten. “Whether Mike DeWine is trying to strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions, trying to cut Medicaid, or taking millions in campaign contributions from insurance and health care industries, DeWine has spent nearly half a century in politics looking out for special interests at the expense of Ohio families.”
During the final debate, Mike DeWine fired off misleading attacks while Rich Cordray doubled down on his commitment to protect Ohioans’ health care. Cordray’s health care plan stands in stark contrast to that of his opponent: Mike DeWine tried to take away protections for people with pre-existing conditions on his very first day in office as attorney general, has jeopardized Ohioans’ health care coverage, and wants to end Ohio’s Medicaid expansion as Ohioans currently know it. Even now, Mike DeWine is refusing to join the fight to protect the nearly 5 million Ohioans with a pre-existing condition.
